Big Brothers Big Sisters of Grand Erie would like to take a moment and applaud the amazing women of the Port Dover 2013 V-Day movement. We are extremely appreciative to have been selected to be a charity of choice for this year’s production. The collection of Monologues at Lighthouse Festival Theatre on Saturday March 2nd gave us a stage to grow awareness about our organization and the various programs we offer. It also gave us the opportunity to show-off one of our amazing matches: “Big Sister” JP & “Little Sister” Jessica who were part of the cast. The ladies, dressed in black and red, made us: …laugh out loud with their outrageous comments and impressions.
…cry, when telling horrible stories and sharing facts.
…proud to be women who stand up for others.
We as a community all have a part to play in growing a new generation of smart, strong women.

“We are so very moved to have been acknowledged by a group that stands for everything we believe in.  Our goal is to help our local children and youth reach their full potential: we do that for our girls and young women with traditional Big Sister Little Sister matches and Go Girls groups programs. To see “Little Sister” Jessica all grown up on-stage with suchconfidence made us so very proud. A large part of that is to be credited to “Big Sister” JP and the years of friendship they have shared and will continue to share because we were able to make that match. They are what Big Brothers Big Sisters is all about…” ~ Patti O’Reilly, Executive Director

A BIG thank you to everyone that made the evening such a success and helped contribute to the $2,002.51 cheque presented to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Grand Erie earlier this week. An even BIGGER thank you to Rebecca Knight, the Director who made it all possible. V-Day is a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls. V-Day is a catalyst that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise money, and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations. V-Day generates broader attention for the fight to stop violence against women and girls, including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation (FGM), and sex slavery.
